Free Virtual Analog Synthesizer Plugin by BlauKraut Engineering

This is one of the best freebies around, kinda Moog for poor, dunno about you, but I love to tweak this simpler synths and outcome shows that, don't remember having so much fun tweaking something since TAL 101  geek

Charlatan is a polyphonic, subtractive virtual analog (VA) synthesizer plugin with focus on sound quality and easy usability.
It comes with a flexible, yet not overwhelming feature set which encourages artists to start tweaking instead of just relying on presets. Inspite of it's simplicity, Charlatan's architecture is flexible enough to create both classic sounds and rather experimental noises.
While making no compromise about sound quality, the sound engine has been highly optimized for efficient CPU usage making Charlatan well suited as a "bread and butter" synth even in projects with a large number of plugin instances.

Best of all, it's FREEWARE! Enjoy!

Key Features:

   2 oscillators with shape modulation
Oscillator hard synchronization and ring modulation
Unison mode with upto 7 voices and stereo spread
   Stereo noise generator
   2 ADSR envelope generators
   LFO with host tempo synchronization
   3 filter types modeled after classic analog hardware: 4-pole (24 db/oct) and 2-pole (12 db/oct) lowpass, bandpass
3 voice modes: Monophonic, Monophonic Legato and 8-voice Polyphonic
   Ultra-low CPU usage

hello, home sharing members I love you,

being prone to different obsessive compulsive disorders, one of the first tests when trying out new instrument plug-ins became this one, using any of the wave forms, if sine then without any filtering, if other then low pass cutoff about one third setting, playing the lowest keys possible, trying to find the shortest setting of attack that still comes without audible clicks, to check how the oscillator reset is handled, in mono mode, then with slide on for legato mode, for usable sub bass, medium bass, sounds. Smile

this instrument is one of the best in this regard, within other considerations, one of the best sounding free plug-ins, the timbres coming from it are very good suited to any later handling, be it any effects, dynamics, processing. Smile

hats, toupees, payots even, off!!! sunny

Really like it's not emulation of particular unit, but take on subject, it was monophonic in v1, didn't tried to sound like anything, but it sounds great.

Try it with SGA1566 on bass  sunny

hey, charlatan appreciation voters,

exactly, all the sounds coming from it are just good on their own, also very inviting, accomodating, for any added processing. Cool

that sga preamplifier emulation is also excellent, already have tried it with many, nearly all, kind of source material, could not go agley with it. Cool

many such plug-ins put their operation focus rather into the higher octaves of the spectrum in the audio source, this one is excellently placed. Cool

best of all for all of us... Smile
